The Dogo Argentino originated in Argentina."Developed from generations of Old World mastiff-type dogs. The Cordoba dog was also a talented hunter, with one deal-breaking drawback – its understandably intense dog aggression."

What was the original purpose of this dog breed? 

 The original purpose of this dog breed was bred to hunt. With this purpose in mind Dr. Nores Martinez was the originator of the breed. He is responsible for the impressive dog we now know as the Dogo Argentino.  

The Dogo Argentino was bred to be a hunting dog. The breed as we know it today originated from the original fighting dog of Cordoba (a fierce dog). In order to breed a dog suited to be a precise hunter Dr Martinez crossed various breeds to achieve the dog we know today.  

 Harlequin Great Dane   contributed height 
 Bull Terrier gave the breed its hallmarkWhite coat 
 Boxers for tractability (for temperament)  & agility
 Pyrenean Mastiff  also for calm temperament
 Pointer  for its superior scenting ability

Does it belong in a home? 

Yes, they make great pets. Loyal, loving and protective. However, since the breed is a working breed, it is imperative to remember that they need plenty of exercise. A focused intelligent dog, it is not recommended for first time dog owners.
